What Is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy?
KAP combines medically supervised ketamine with structured psychotherapy.

Unlike IV ketamine infusion clinics where you receive treatment alone, KAP has a licensed therapist present with you throughout the dosing session. They prepare you beforehand and help you integrate the experience afterward — which research suggests produces more durable, lasting improvements than ketamine alone. Read the full comparison guide of how ketamine-assisted psychotherapy compares to other ketamine treatments.
Journey Clinical’s model gives you a dedicated care team: their in-house medical team handles medical eligibility, treatment plan and prescriptions, and outcome monitoring, while you choose your own therapist from their nationwide network for the psychotherapy component. Yes. Choosing your therapist is a core part of the Journey Clinical model. You browse the directory, select based on your preferences, and contact them directly.
Will a therapist be with me during the ketamine session?
Yes, for in-person and remote KAP. For in-person sessions the therapist is physically present. For remote sessions the therapist joins via Zoom and a trusted chaperone must be physically with you. Self-guided KAP is the exception — the therapist checks in before and after only.

Is KAP safe?
KAP is considered safe when administered under medical supervision with a licensed therapist present. Journey Clinical’s medical team screens all patients for contraindications before treatment. Common temporary side effects include dizziness, nausea, and mild dissociation during the session.
How is Journey Clinical different from IV ketamine clinics?
IV ketamine clinics typically administer ketamine without a therapist present. Journey Clinical’s KAP model requires a licensed therapist for preparation, dosing, and integration (read the full guide on set and setting, preparation and integration)— which research suggests produces more durable improvements. Journey Clinical also accepts insurance and uses oral ketamine lozenges rather than IV infusions.
