Frequently Asked Questions

Does Journey Clinical accept my insurance?

Journey Clinical is in network with many major insurance plans, and we are continuously expanding our network. We currently accept the following providers: Aetna, Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield (including Blue Shield of California, Florida Blue, and other regional plans), Cigna (Evernorth), Enthea, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Moda Health, Tufts Health Plan, and UnitedHealthcare (including Optum and UMR). Coverage varies by state, so the best way to confirm whether your specific plan is covered is to create your patient portal and submit your insurance information. Our team will run a benefits check and let you know exactly what your costs would look like before you commit to anything. If we are not yet in network with your plan, you may still have out of network benefits that can help offset the cost of your medical appointments. Our team can help you understand what that would look like for your specific plan.

How much does the therapy portion cost?

Therapy is billed separately from your Journey Clinical medical costs and is paid directly to your therapist according to their hourly rate or your insurance benefits. When we match you with a therapist, we take your insurance into account so we can find someone whose rates work for you. Many of our therapists accept insurance, and even if Journey Clinical is not in network with your plan, your therapist may be, which can significantly reduce the overall cost of treatment. You can use the slider in our cost calculator above to estimate therapy costs based on your preferred therapist hourly rate.

Can I use my HSA or FSA to pay for treatment?

Yes. Both your Journey Clinical medical costs and your therapy sessions are generally eligible for payment using a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA). We recommend confirming with your HSA or FSA administrator to verify your specific plan's eligibility, but for most patients this is a straightforward way to reduce out of pocket costs significantly.

Do I need to have a therapist before I get started?

No. If you do not have a therapist, we will match you with one. Our therapist matching team takes into account your preferences including in person versus virtual sessions, location, insurance coverage, gender, and areas of specialty to find the right fit for you. All of our therapists offer a free 15-minute consultation so you can make sure you feel comfortable before moving forward. If you already have a therapist, we can check whether they are a Journey Clinical member or work to bring them into our network.

What happens if I'm not eligible for treatment?

Your safety and wellbeing come first. If our medical team determines during your intake evaluation that KAP is not the right fit for you, you will receive a full refund.

How quickly can I get started?

Most patients are able to schedule their intake evaluation with one of our providers within a week. To get started, simply create your patient portal, complete a few brief intake forms, and select a time for your 1-hour intake evaluation with our medical team. From there, we will handle therapist matching and guide you through the rest of the process.

Why does Journey Clinical recommend 8 dosing sessions?

Our clinical team recommends a full course of 8 dosing sessions because the research consistently shows that this is where patients experience the most meaningful and lasting results. A helpful analogy is antibiotics: while you may start to feel better after a few doses, completing the full course is what produces the most effective outcome. Each session also opens a neuroplastic window, a period where the brain is more receptive to change, and our integration therapy sessions are specifically designed to help you capitalize on that window for long term benefit.

What is the difference between Journey Clinical and other ketamine providers?

The most important difference is the therapy component. Journey Clinical is not just a ketamine treatment provider. Every patient works with a licensed, KAP-trained therapist who guides them through preparation, dosing, and integration sessions. This structure is what allows patients to fully capitalize on the neuroplastic benefits of ketamine and achieve lasting results rather than temporary symptom relief. 87% of Journey Clinical patients experience improvement in their anxiety and depression clinical scales after completing a full course of treatment. We also provide ongoing medical oversight, personalized therapist matching, and a collaborative care model designed to support you at every step.

How quickly will I see results?

Some patients see improvements right after their first dosing and integration sessions. For others, it can take a few more sessions to feel results, but 87% of patients see improvement after 8 sessions, with 40% experiencing complete symptom remission. In addition to immediate symptom relief, ketamine can help create new neural connections, facilitate emotional healing, and provide powerful insights for long-lasting, positive lifestyle changes.
