Treatment-resistant depression

Major depressive disorder with acute suicidal thoughts or behavior

Improvement as early as the day after the first treatment

What is Spravato®?

Spravato® (esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal spray for treatment-resistant depression that targets the brain's glutamate system, offering a different approach when traditional antidepressants haven't provided enough relief.

You take Spravato® at our clinic with your dedicated healthcare provider there to support and monitor you. After each dose, you'll relax at the clinic for at least two hours before heading home.

The Spravato®withMe program offers rebates to help cover eligible out-of-pocket costs. Based on your insurance benefits and deductible, eligible patients can reduce treatment expenses.

As low as $10 a session with insurance.

What should I expect on treatment day?

1

Get comfortable

Settle into a reclining chair and get comfortable for your session. Listen to music, use an eye mask, or simply close your eyes and relax.

2

Take your Spravato®

You'll give yourself the nasal spray while your care team guides you. We'll check your blood pressure and stay nearby throughout your treatment.

3

Settle in while the medication takes effect

You may feel relaxed, dreamy, floaty, or a little disconnected from your surroundings. Some people notice shifts in their thoughts or perspective; others simply feel relaxed or sleepy. The experience is different for everyone—and there's no particular way you're supposed to feel. We'll be nearby throughout.

4

Rest while we monitor you

You'll stay with us for about two hours while the effects wear off. Some people listen to music or rest; others find the time reflective. There's nothing you need to accomplish.

5

Head home and take it easy

Once you're ready to leave, your ride can take you home. Give yourself a quiet rest of the day and return to your normal routine the next day.

When will I start feeling better?

Some people notice changes in their depression symptoms as early as the first few treatments, while for others improvement builds more gradually. You might notice more energy, a lighter mood, or that everyday things start to feel a little easier. Don't be discouraged if you don't feel different right away—we'll track your progress throughout the first month and adjust your treatment plan with you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I qualify for Spravato?

Spravato® is FDA-approved for adults with treatment-resistant depression (typically defined as having tried two or more antidepressants without adequate relief) and for depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder who have suicidal thoughts or behavior. The best way to find out is to complete a medical intake with our clinical team, who will review your history and current symptoms to confirm whether Spravato® is a safe and appropriate option for you.

Does insurance cover Spravato in NY?

Yes. Spravato® is covered by most major insurance plans. Our Ballston Spa team will check your coverage, handle any required prior authorization, and let you know what you can expect to pay before you begin treatment.

How much does Spravato cost with insurance?

Your cost will depend on your insurance coverage, and we'll let you know what to expect before treatment begins. Eligible patients with commercial insurance may also pay as little as $10 per treatment for their Spravato® medication through the SPRAVATO withMe Savings Program.

Which insurance plans does Journey Clinical accept?

We are in network with many major insurance providers, including Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Optum, Oscar, CDPHP, and MVP, and we are continuously expanding our network. Coverage can vary by plan, so the surest way to confirm your specific coverage is to submit your insurance information and let our team run a benefits check.

Can I drive home after Spravato?

No. You'll need someone to take you home after each treatment, and you shouldn't drive until the next day after a restful night's sleep. If getting a ride is a concern, let us know—our team can help make sure you have a safe way home.

Do I need a referral from my psychiatrist or therapist?

No referral is required to get started. You can reach out to us directly and begin with a medical intake. That said, we're happy to coordinate with your existing psychiatrist or therapist as part of your care, and we'll gather relevant history during your evaluation.

Can I keep seeing my current therapist or psychiatrist?

Absolutely. Spravato® treatment at our Ballston Spa clinic is designed to complement your existing mental health care, not replace it. We encourage you to continue working with your current therapist or psychiatrist, and our team can collaborate with them to support your overall treatment plan.
